THE INTERVIEW

What do you enjoy most at Totoya?

I enjoy making food and serving it to guests myself. It makes me happy when they tell me it tastes good. I remember helping a Korean-speaking guest with their order in Korean and hearing their thanks. I also try using Japanese with Japanese-speaking guests and English with English-speaking guests.

THE INTERVIEW

What matters to you in service?

We talk with each other about how to offer better service. Piikoi is busy, but I want guests to feel they can take their time. We think about how we speak to them so they do not feel rushed.

THE INTERVIEW

What was difficult at first?

At first, I felt rushed as orders and guests kept coming. I was helping with miso soup, serving, and washing dishes, and wondered how I could handle it all. I gradually got used to the pace. When I made mistakes, a teammate's reassurance helped me calm down and try again.

THE INTERVIEW

When do you notice your growth?

Before, it was hard to keep up with my own work. Now I can help teammates, cover a task, or switch places when needed. Keeping things moving together matters because we want guests to feel comfortable, enjoy their meal, and come back.

THE INTERVIEW

What would you like to tell your team?

Thank you. When someone helps me, I say it, and sometimes I bring food for us to share. We also play basketball outside work. Getting to know each other helps our teamwork and service. I respect my teammates for what they do well, regardless of age.

THE INTERVIEW

A message for the Piikoi team?

We have a friendly team, and I feel good about where we are. But I want us to keep thinking about what we can improve. Every guest is different, so we need to consider how to give each person a good experience.
