The experiences behind our values
Hi everyone,
We’d like to share the key messages from our recent meeting, especially with those who couldn’t attend. Tac spoke about the experiences behind Funergy’s journey, what we value as a company, and why those values matter.
From travel-related businesses and rice sales to food trucks and eventually Tori Ton, the journey involved many challenges, including opening a restaurant and navigating the pandemic.
These experiences reinforced that sales and more locations alone do not make a strong company. Gratitude for our team and guests, and a shared sense of purpose, are just as important.
Our purpose
Our purpose is to bring Japanese food culture and the spirit of care and hospitality to Hawaii, energize our community, and grow as individuals through our work.
Five values guide us
01 Enjoy What We Do
Approach our work positively and bring good energy to our guests and teammates through our greetings and everyday actions.
02 Gratitude
Never take our guests, teammates, or opportunities for granted. Put our appreciation into words and say “thank you.”
03 Care for Others
Reach out when someone needs help, celebrate each other’s successes, and build a team that supports one another.
04 Growth
Try new things and learn from mistakes. Develop not only our skills, but also our ability to understand and care about others.
05 Integrity
Be honest about mistakes and challenges instead of hiding them. Work together to find solutions and prevent the same problems from happening again.
What “enjoying our work” looks like
“Enjoying what we do” does not mean everyone has to be loud or outgoing. Someone working quietly and thoughtfully in the kitchen can embody this value through a positive attitude and a positive contribution to the team.
Lead through words and actions
Leaders should do more than tell others to “have fun.” They should lead with greetings and encouragement, create a supportive workplace, and help teammates discover the confidence and satisfaction that come from taking on new challenges.
Members at G2 and above should especially lead by example and share these values through both words and actions.
Growing our people and our company
Sales and profit also matter. They help protect jobs, sustain our workplaces, and make new opportunities possible. We want our people and our company to grow together while earning lasting support from our community.
